Ten Penny Ale Song

Penned by a personal friend, John McLaughlin, a Northampton, MA lawyer and lead singer for the band "Dicey Riley." John was originally a homeboy from East Hartford. This Ale Song is sung to the tune of "The Wearin' of the Green"

Over in East Hartford
In the Burnside side of town
An ancient well brings water up
From well beneath the ground

At first they built an ice house
It’s prospered all these years
But now they’re doing better boys
Their brewing up some beer!

Drink Ten Penny Ale,
Drink Ten Penny Ale;
The beer that’s from the Burnside Boys
It’s water from the well!

Drink Ten Penny Ale,
Drink Ten Penny Ale;
The beer that’s from the Burnside Boys
It’s water from the well!

For years at the old ice house
You could buy water too;
Home brewers came from miles around
For water for their brew.

One day Big Bob took notice
Of all the water sales;
Big Bob he had a grand idea
They’ll make Ten Penny Ale!

(Repeat Chorus twice)

So when you hear the piper
And feel the call of Brew,
Order a Ten Penny lad
Or maybe order two!

‘Cause over in East Hartford
Olde Burnside brews a Brew
With crystal water from the well
The best of old and new
